PROMO: The Traveler series by Claudia Lefeve + Give@way!

Haven't read the Travelers Series yet? Now's your chance to get started!
The first three books (Volume 1) in the Travelers Series are now available! Find out what happens when seventeen-year-old Etta Fleming finds out she's not only from an alternate reality, but is destined to become the future leader of a band of paranormal misfits in order to protect a future reality from destruction.

The fourth book in the series, PARAMETER, will be available late-Spring 2013!

"You know what your problem is?"
"I didn't take time to eat my Wheaties?"

Parallel

Destiny has a way of catching up.

Saddled with powers she doesn't understand, Etta Fleming's world is turned upside-down the day she meets Cooper Everett, the man who transports her to an alternate reality. A reality she was meant to be a part of.

One minute, she's an orphan living at Dominion House for Girls, an institution for delinquent foster kids, then finds herself attending the exclusive Dominion Hall Academy.

Plucked from the only world she's ever known, Etta now has to deal with an aunt she never knew, a boyfriend she doesn't know, and a best friend who can't know.

"How does one deal with the harsh reality
that the man you want to be with is already
taken – by your future self."
Paradox

Everything is predestined.

Etta is slowly readjusting to life in her new reality, while still recovering from the shock over the news regarding her relationship with Cooper.

While learning more about her role as leader of the Council, she soon discovers that her future is linked to the five extraordinary individuals she must recruit in order to ensure her destiny.

Nothing is as it seems, as rivals become allies and friends become the enemy.
“Because life isn’t a John Hughes movie.
And even if it were, we’d be cast as one
of the social misfits in The Breakfast Club...”
Paradigm
Take hold of your destiny.

Etta Fleming doesn’t know she was meant to return to her true reality four years ago. After years of being the “orphan girl” in the alternate world she grew up in, she’s finally carved a niche for herself with a great job, a steady boyfriend, and a best friend by her side.

Undeterred by the shift in the timeline, it is up to Cooper Everett and his friends to convince Etta that she is still destined to become their leader, fighting against their post-apocalyptic future.

Will meeting the ghosts of her past convince Etta that she’s part of a grander destiny? Or will her past, present, and future worlds collide.

Movie Review: The Perks of Being A Wallflower

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower
Based on the homonyme book by Stephen Chbosky

Director: Stephen Chbosky
Production: Summit Entertainment

My Review

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower was an amazing film, full of fantastic actors and beautiful soundtracks. Everybody told me the book was great but I would have never thought that the story would impress me SO much!

The story is presented as a series of letters between Charlie, the protagonist, and Micheal, an old friend (who committed suicide the year before), he wrote to, to have someone to whom he could tell all his problems and experiences about High School. Infact, Charlie was quite a particular guy, evidently full of social and psycological problems, that are treated very superficially at the beginning but that will then deepened at the end of the film. Charlie had no friends until he met Patrick and Sam, sister-brother, that will welcome Charlie in their circle; this relationship will give him finally the possibility to have new experiences and discover emotions such as love, friendship and trust.

The film touched some really tough themes, like dealing with drugs, depression, abuses and in general violence. I was really impressed by how lightly these themes were treated and I really didn't feel the heaviness of them. I think Charlie's character was absolutely the best part of it, and I am sure that everyone who saw the film, saw also a little bit of him/herself in him. I really think that High School can be traumatic for some teens even if, fortunately, I am not living it that way. Still, I can see everyday guys and girls bullied and mocked by the queens and kings of school and this film just made me reflect a bit about this huge problem. We always judge and make fun of others without really knowing them and sometimes we cause pain to those who already must endure much. I think Logan Lerman was perfect for the role, he has such a sweet face! And even if someone could say that he was not very expressive sometimes, I think his eyes simply reflected all Charlie's emotions.

I was so amazed by Emma Watson's performance, because she perfectly fit the role, though it was SO different from the character of Hermione Granger; I was so used to see her as a shy girl, that I was completely struck by how good she was as Sam. I personally had mixed feelings about her character but then she finally realised what was best for her and she learned how to respect also herself, first of others. Useless to say that I completely fell in love with Ezra Miller and his character! He was AMAZING and in my opinion he was the best actor in the cast; I appreciated how strong his character was but at the same time how fragile and patient he was because of love. Something I particulary liked was that he didn't let his lover take his dignity away and, even if he was madly in love, he put his dignity first of everything and everyone, something his sister was not quite good at.

I think the shots were perfect and the lights something paradisiac: the scene in which they are in the car, with the wind in their face and the lights of the city cast across them was terrific. And the soundtracks were also perfect, finally a film with good music!

Well, I don't know what else to say, just GO SEE THIS MOVIE, NOW. A movie that will make you reflect about important themes and that I am sure will move you so much.

From GoodReads
But when your parents are dead and the government directs your path in life, sleep shouldn’t come easily. Lately, Tessa’s fitful nights are growing even more predictable, almost like déjà vu. And she’s beginning to think that something greater is at work—something her society has taken drastic measures to keep hidden.
Caught between self-discovery and government conformity, she’ll have to choose either the boy who can help her reveal this new truth or the one that can provide her with the security of familiarity.
Tessa’s faced with a weighty decision. And she’s going to need more than a good night’s sleep to make it.

My Review

Tessa is a 17 years old girl, that just couldn't sleep since her parents' death, two years ago. And as if that was not enough, time seems to tormenting her: every night she finds herself laying in bed, awake, always at the same hour, and those three numbers seem to be also related with some curious events she experienced. Moreover, she will also have to deal with some really hard choices, like choosing between Joel, the perfect gentleman, who had always loved her, and Liam, the newcomer who came to live at her old ranch, where she used to live with her parents. Tessa's life will definitely take a turn when Joel seems to finally have an answer to Tessa's problems with timing, but will this secret bound them together? Or will it push Tessa in Liam's arms? And most important, will Tessa have the strenght to bear such an heavy gift? Because Tessa's is definitely a gift, something that makes her different from any other living person, something that doesn't make her succubus of the Hub.

Traced was really a great discovery! You know how much I love dystophians, and this one clearly hasn't failed my expectations. One of the best aspect of the book was the veil of mystery that surrounded the Hub, the oppressive government, of which the author gives some hints only once in a while; infact, even if it was clear that the government influenced (even better, forced) 18 years old teens, in choosing their future career, there were not many informations about how the Hub was organised and the history of how it came to be in power, something that I really hope will be better explained in book two. Nevertheless, I like the tension and the secrecy, the fear which was always present when talking about the Hub: a terrible government is something every good dystopian must have! I also loved the originality of the all setting and especially, the importance the author gave to time. I really think that Tessa's "disease" is unique and absolutely fascinating and the suspense created by the author during all the book, until the discovery of her secret, will keep you reading even when your eyes will beg you to stop. It was really interesting to see how Tessa's problems were related also to her father's story, and I thought it was such a wise choice to create this father-daughter bound that will connect the two characters, even if one of them is dead. Something that I would like to know more about is the origins of this kind of disease (I really can't tell you what it is, don't want to do spoiler!), how it was used in time of war, and how it spread.
Another important aspect of the book was the love triangle among Tessa, Joel and Liam, even if you know I'm not a huge fan of love triangles.( I'm personally Team Liam!) Usually, I'm always more attached to one of the two, and as a consequence I start to hate the other, because it's like he's "in the middle", but this time I couldn't let myself hate neither of them, they were both so cute! Liam, with his blond curls and that sense of "Man of the House" and Joel, the handsome football player, that is just a normal, sweet guy who has to bear the pressure of everyone's expectations.Sincerely, sometimes I really couldn't understand Tessa's behaviour, she didn't want to hurt neither of them but then she did so, caring only about her desires and instincts and not about the consequences of her actions. Probably this was the only aspect of her personality I didn't appreciated, but for the rest I loved how shy and calm she was, even if she was very emotional, just like any other normal teenager.

Overall
Traced is a brand new dystopian that will drag you in a strange, yet apparently normal society, that hides a lot of secrets you will die to get to know.I think Traced was the best book I've read this month, absolutely a series I will have to follow in the future. I really recommend you to read it, if you are looking for a great, yet light dystopian that will leave you with a bitter taste in the end. You will just want more, and more of it, just like me. Just waiting for the release of the sequel, Spring 2013!!

Character Bio – Joel McBrayer

Sometimes I think it would be nice to have one of those crystal balls that lets you see the future. You know, so you can start planning now for the events you already know will occur. Funny thing is, it seems like everyone else around here is already doing that with my life—planning and preparing for a future they don’t necessarily know will happen.
It’s hard to plan anything with the Hub in control, so I’ve decided just to sit back and let the pieces fall where they may. Even if I chose football over medicine, it’s not like that decision will influence what Sector they’ll select for me come December. But it doesn’t stop the entire town from gossiping and making their opinions known. Everyone seems to have an opinion about my life, everyone except Tessa O’Donnell.
Maybe that’s why I’m so drawn to her—because she seems just as uncertain as I am. I’ve heard the whispers going around about Tessa ever since her parents died. Our town has expectations for her, too. And they also have some strong opinions about her dad. I want to tell everyone to back off and leave her alone. I want to protect her in some way, but I’m not sure why. She’s different, and I think I’m drawn to her because of that. And it seems like she’s drawn to me, too. At least I hope she is. Though I’m not up for planning too much in my life, I definitely plan to find out if the feeling is mutual. Girls like Tessa are few and far between, and I’d never forgive myself if I didn’t at least try to see if there is something there. And I think I’m just about to get that chance.

* A GREAT view, isn't it?

Guest Post: Eight Reasons Fantasy Heroines Rock by Sally Dubats

Eight Reasons Fantasy Heroines Rock
(And Normal Heroines Don’t)
By Sally Dubats

1. Fantasy Heroines get to do extraordinary things, like have out-of-body experiences. If they’re involved with a supernatural boyfriend, they get to watch their supernatural boyfriend do extraordinary things, like fly. Normal Heroines talk a lot to their boyfriends. Sometimes they yell.
2. Fantasy Heroines travel to really exotic places like the astral plane or even the distant past. Normal Heroines stay in school, or a coffee shop, or their living rooms. Or maybe a horse stable.
3. Fantasy Heroines are smart. They have to be to fit in with regular humans and not get found out. If they’re in a relationship with a supernatural boyfriend, they have to be smart and be able to keep a secret, like the fact that their boyfriend is a Siren and their kind have been influencing humans since the beginning of time. Normal Heroines worry about their popularity.
4. Fantasy Heroines have to figure out how to stay out of the way of angry supernatural types. It’s one thing to have a jealous ex-girlfriend on your tail; it’s another if the jealous ex-girlfriend can possess people to get to you. Normal Heroines only have to deal with the air being let out of their tires.
5. Fantasy Heroines have to be physically strong and have the endurance to keep up with their supernatural boyfriends. They train, do yoga, and learn martial arts. Normal Heroines probably do something to maintain their always flawless bodies, but we never know what.
6. Fantasy Heroines aren’t afraid to look bad and aren’t out to impress. They trek through frozen tundra and survive avalanches without makeup or washing their hair, and their supernatural boyfriends still think they’re fabulous. Normal Heroines obsess over their lip gloss and breath.
7. Fantasy Heroines have compassion and empathy beyond measure. They understand their supernatural boyfriend’s conflict over using humans as energy sources. Normal Heroines get upset when their boyfriends have to work late.
8. Fantasy Heroines deal with daily trauma that would send any normal person to the loony bin. You know... the attempts on their life... seeing innocent people killed. And they keep it all a secret. Normal Heroines deal with getting less than an “A” on a term paper.

So now you have an idea of what Cassie goes through with Trenton in “The Grimoire Chronicles!” I had a lot of fun writing “Veil Between Worlds” and “Winter Shock”. Supernatural fantasy is so much fun to play with as a writer! I hope you like my series, and more books are on the way. Like or Tweet this for your fantasy-reading friends!

Thank you so much, Sara! I really enjoyed stopping by! ::Scurries back to writing::

Fire&Ice Blog Hop: Impossible by Komal Lewis [Review, Interview, Give@way!]

Fire&Ice is a Blog Hop hosted all winter long, which feature romantic novel for icy cold nights! See the entire schedule here!
As part of the hop, I decided to feature the super kind Komal Lewis, author of Impossible, who offered for this stop, 3 Kindle copies of her book!

Impossible
With me #1
Author: Komal Lewis
Published: 24th October 2012
Publisher: Createspace
Format: eARC
Source: Received from the author
Purchase: Amazon, Createspace, Smashwords

From Goodreads

Ashton Summers is on her way to becoming the most popular girl in school and nothing—or no one—is going to stand in her way. Especially not Luca Byron, her freak neighbor, with his tattoos, loud music, and distracting green eyes.

Luca Byron has three goals in life: get through high school with a low profile, make sure his garage band becomes something more than a hobby, and try to forget about his insufferable ex-best friend, Ashton, who he can’t get out of his mind.
The last thing Ashton and Luca want to do is rekindle their friendship, but when Ashton takes a tumble down the social ladder, Luca—with his new makeover—is the only one who can help her rise up again by pretending to be her boyfriend. At first, being together is unbearable and annoying, but things start to change as Ashton and Luca discover the real reasons they drifted apart seven years ago.
Now, keeping their hands off each other seems impossible.

My Review

Impossible was a quick, light-hearted read, that really surprised me! Everyone who follow my blog a bit, know what a bad relationship I usually have with romances and love stories, but this one really passionated me, even if the story was quite plain and didn't have particular twists.

Pro/Con - Protagonists
Impossible is the story about two very different teenagers, Luca and Ashton, who had been best friends since they were children until the course of events didn't split them apart. Infact both of them deeply changed after Mr. Byron's death (Luca's father): Ashton became a shallow, mean, snob, someone completely different from Luca's old friend, someone who was only focused on becoming the most popular girl in school; Luca, on the other hand, found shelter in music, the only thing that helped him to get through a really tough moment. It had all happened for a joke at the beginning, to allow Ashton to regain her popularity, but who knows what kind of crazy relationship can arise from such different personalities?

I really liked how plain and simple the whole story was developed and I absolutely loved how flowing Komal's way of writing was! This was absolutely the perfect reading for the stressful period I'm currently living (school school school's fault!). I enjoyed the themes that the author treated, especially bullism and the value of friendship, the true one. I just thought that she could have deepened the part of Ashton's change, because it was way too sudden. Nevertheless I thought that maybe this was due to the fact that she wasn't as snob and shallow as she wanted to be considered, she was just too influenced and manipulated by her friend Kance and by her obsession for popularity. I loved how Luca was the only one who could put her in place, it was as if he was exactly her complementary piece.
Another positive aspect is that the author has chosen to explore the causes and the reasons which led the two friends to depart, adding a little drama to the story;especially, I liked how she charged with vulnerability Ashton's character, that was framed from the beginning as the superficial one. Despite her tough facade, infact, she suffered from several psychological trauma that forced her to feel always a little unsecure and in danger. Speaking of Luca instead I really enjoyed reading about his relationship with music, and how it gave him the necessary strenght to move on. It was adorable how he devoted his passion to his father, how he wanted to succeed just to accomplish  what had been his father's dream.
In general I really think that the strong point of the book were absolutely the characters, because the author succesfully described a wide variety of teenagers, just as they are today. There are the kings and queens of school, that tease the so called "freaks", just to feel more secure and invincibles, and those who are a little different from the rest, who may wear particular clothes or put on a striking make-up that are constantly bullied by the stronger.
I think this book, in its simplicity, has a lot of themes on which we should reflect.

Secondary Characters
I really can not spend at least two lines about two secondary characters that really impressed me. First of all, Eddie, he was such a sweetheart! He was the perfect example of "never judge a book by its cover". He had plenty of tattoos and that particular emo-rock style that immediately makes people gossip about you, but actually he was a guy who was constantly supporting his family, especially his sister and the only one who didn't hesitate in accepting Ashton, even if, just the day before she was the one making fun of him.
Second one, Stace, maybe one of my favourite character this time. She was direct, impulsive, sincere and always coherent with her decisions and her feelings toward people. Mmm, could she be a Sagittarius, just like me? :3

Overall
A light, funny, romantic short book, that you will devour within a day.. or less!

Rated 4.30

Interview with Komal Lewis!

- Can you tell us a little about your YA novel, Impossible?
Impossible is about childhood friends who grow up and grow apart. Ashton will do anything to be popular, and Luca doesn’t care what society thinks of him. One thing leads to another, and Ashton and Luca reconnect. Amidst all the high school drama, they have to figure out if a relationship between them is possible, despite all the differences that stand in their way.

-What was the inspiration behind your book?
My initial inspiration was the 1990’s movie, Drive Me Crazy. I wanted to put my own spin on the whole “childhood friendship and next-door-neighbours” thing. Impossible takes that concept and adds more bitchiness and steaminess to it!

-Impossible perfectly describes the reality of life in high schools nowadays, did you felt inspired by your experience of high school?
My high school experience was very different to Ashton and Luca’s. Still, I have been bullied before so it was very important for me to put that into the story. I think everyone’s high school experience is unique, but I hope that readers can still relate to some of the events in Impossible.

-Your dream cast for an eventual movie adaption of your book?
I know I always said that Alex Pettyfer was my perfect Luca, but after I saw Nicholas Hoult in the Warm Bodies trailer, I changed my mind. (Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about Alex—he would be even more perfect as a different character in a future novel.) Teresa Palmer would be perfect as Ashton; she’s so very pretty. I picture Lucy Hale as Kance, Logan Lerman as Eddie, Freddie Stroma as Oliver, and Xavier Samuel as Bennett.

-If you had to pick one character as your favorite, who would it be and why?
I always have a tough time deciding between Luca and Eddie (especially because Eddie is such a sweetheart in the second book), but I’m going with Luca. He doesn’t care what other people think about him, yet he cares so much for other people. Plus, he’s in a band. Enough said.

-Do you listen to any music when you write? If yes, tell us the top 5 songs that you listened to while writing Impossible.
I only listened to one song while writing Impossible, and that was With Me by Sum41. It perfectly sums up how Luca feels for Ashton.

-Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
My most rewarding experience has definitely been interacting with readers, bloggers, and other authors. Writing is such a solitary job, so it’s wonderful to finally get out of that writing cave and have these amazing people wanting to talk to you.

-What do you do when writers block strikes?
Writers block and me have an agreement. Whenever I get writers block, I just do whatever the heck I want to do. I know it’ll eventually pass, so I just relax and take it easy.

-Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
I have a gazillion future projects! I’m currently revising Falling for Hadie, which is the stand-along sequel to Impossible. In April, I have a YA Paranormal releasing titled Runaway Mortal. After that, I start working on Wrong Side of Town which is the third book in the With Me series. So 2013 is a busy year for me!

Tour: Shifty Business by Olivia Hardin [Interview]

Hey peeps! Today I have the pleasure to host Olivia Hardin, the author of two Paranormal series. Shifty Business is the third book in the Bend-Bite-Shift trilogy and it is currently on tour with the amazing Enchanted Book Tours! Want to know something great? I just realised I have the first book in the series on my Kindle! So if you want to know more about this awesome series, here is my interview with the author:

Shifty Business
Bend-Bite-Shift #3

From Goodreads
Gerry Hinton thought she had the perfect career as an operative for the Company. Her next assignment should have been another "mission accomplished", but hell was delivering hand baskets that day.

When a little girl gives a mysterious silver box to Gerry, her world self-destructs. Suddenly under constant mental attacks, the only person who can save her is her partner, Nicky--but nothing comes without a cost. Secrets buried deep in the past begin to rise, threatening everything she holds dear.

Interview with Olivia Hardin

-Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into writing?
I started scribbling in spiral notebooks from about the age of 15.  I would have dreams that were so vivid and real that I had to put them to paper.  By the time I graduated high school I was telling people I was going to be a writer.  I’m so glad I decided to get back to that long ago dream and put “pen to paper” again!

-Describe your book in two lines.
Nicky thought their secret love could withstand anything.  But the skeletons in Gerry’s closet may be enough to destroy their relationship and end their lives.

-Why should we read Shifty Business?
At the heart of Shifty Business is Gerry’s broken spirit.  She believes she’s unworthy, unclean, evil.  It is a fascinating ride as we join along with her to discover her real value and thereby to save the love of her life.

-What character or part of the story did you become attached to the most while writing and why?
I really allowed myself to get into Nicky’s head during Part I of the book.  Of course Gerry was unconscious that whole time so that made sense, but I really felt like I connected to him.  The love he has for Gerry was palpable to me while writing Part I… it became a part of me.

-Is this a genre you prefer to write in or is there any others you would like to try?
I love paranormal romance.  It has been so much fun to write.  My original dream was to write historical romance and I’m definitely going to delve into that soon.

-If you could be a character in a book, which book and what character?
One of my favorite books is Glory Road by Robert Heinlein... it would be awesome to become Star.

-If you could work with any author who would it be?
Wow, that’s a tough question.  The first one to come to mind is Jude Devereaux.  When I was growing up, hers were some of the first romance novels mom let me read.  She has some great fantasy and paranormal elements to some of her stories and I think it would be amazing to work with her.

-What book are you reading now?
Pressure Point by Charles Colyott.  Loved the first one in his Randall Lee series, Changes.

-Do you have any advice for other writers?
My best advice is to find your support group.  You need a group of folks who will give you critical advice, will pick you up when you’re down and will kick you in the rear when you need it!
